April is “Sexual Assault Awareness Month”. The Lorain County Rape Crisis Center at the Nord Center held a Poster/Essay Contest for area Lorain County high schools. Miss Dane’s Health classes were encouraged to create posters/essays that would help to make others aware of sexual assault. Jessica won first place for her creative poster! Jessica won a $200.00 savings bond for her efforts.
Mari Colon, a prevention specialist, has presented to Miss Dane’s Health classes to create awareness and how important it is to have empathy for survivors of sexual violence. The “Clothesline Project” will be here at CHS April 20-21 to address the issue of violence against women.

A rally to honor the courage and endurance of victims of sexual violence took place Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at 5:30 PM at the 1st Congregational United Church of Christ in Elyria, Ohio. Dennis Will, Lorain County Prosecuting Attorney was a keynote Speaker. Lorain County police officers and detectives were honored, along with students and teachers.
Miss Dane would like to say “thank you” to all the students who entered the contest. “I am proud of them for being an advocate.” You are definitely making a difference!
